Happy 4 year anniversity to me

Today, I'm celebrating a birthday girl, and not just any birthday girl. My company, Good Vibes Only, is now 4 years old! It somehow feels like I just started, yet so much has happened.

Just last week, it felt like I got my first birthday present when a domain I’d been eyeing for ages suddenly became available. Yay!

After six months as a freelancer, I wrote this:

I’m going to tell you a secret: I don’t have a 10-year plan. Not even a 5-year plan. And I don’t have a clear vision of the future. My goal for myself and my company is to always be curious, do things that make me happy, and if something scares me, I say yes! I know that I grow the most when I step out of my comfort zone.

And that still holds true! I still don’t have a big master plan for the next 10 years, but looking back, things have happened. Both my company and I have evolved, and I want to share some pieces of that journey with you, while also telling you what I wish for the future.

Some highlights from these years

I’ve written 57 Beats/Vibes, most of them in the last two years. I wish I had written even more, and I hope to keep going!

I really challenged myself by writing and delivering a big conference talk in Stockholm with a colleague. I’ve also spoken at several meetups on topics like CSS, test frameworks, and Figma integrations. (But let’s be honest… mostly CSS, of course!) On top of that, I think I’ve grown in my roles, both as a frontend developer and in the lead roles I’ve taken on. I’m proud of that, especially because I haven’t let impostor syndrome get the best of me when I dived deep.

I’ve started focusing more on yoga, which was one of my original business goals—to blend IT with teaching yoga. I now teach weekly classes and co-run JUMyoga, where we organize full-day yoga retreats with spa experiences and great food. We actually celebrated our 10-year anniversary in 2024(!), and now we’re expanding even more this spring.

I’ve prioritized going to conferences, which I absolutely love. Learning from brilliant people is amazing, but I’ve also created my own “personal conferences.” At least once a year, I take a few days off, go somewhere by myself, and deep-dive into all the work-related topics I don’t have time to explore daily. It’s like a personal kick-off that re-energizes me and keeps me on a path I love. I’m also so grateful for our small network of freelancers, we meet for lunches, conferences, and Christmas dinners. Love that community!

In yoga, we often talk about being in the present moment, but this time, it was actually fun to look back, seeing what has happened and remembering all the good times. At the same time, I want to take this opportunity to shine a light on the things that will or might come in the future.

Things I’m looking forward to

  • Continuing to work with great colleagues, learning and growing in my role.
  • Posting even more content to inspire others.
  • Speaking at more meetups and another big conference. (Time to find my next “say yes” challenge!)
  • Starting yoga days in Österlen and finally creating a website for JUMyoga (just need to get over my perfectionism).
  • Getting rid of the pain in my left shoulder.
  • Attending more conferences. CSS Days in Amsterdam, what a lineup this year! And then Nordic.js in Stockholm, also celebrating their 10-year anniversary, so it’s going to be extra fun.
  • Feeling truly proud of the accessibility work we’ve done for my clients.

I don’t know if this is interesting to anyone but me, but my hope is to inspire someone out there to pause and look back once in a while. It’s a great feeling to take a moment and recognize that you’re evolving and accomplishing things in more ways than you might realize.

Four years in, and I’m still just as excited about what’s next. Here’s to more curiosity and good vibes only!
